Nifty Neasa leads the way on a busy week for the Rock

BLACKROCK AC athletes and their entourage of coaches and parents embarked on their annual trip to Armagh for the International Road Races last Thursday and, as usual, a wonderful evening was had by all.

First on the rostrum for the seasiders was the up-and-coming Maedhbh Fee who came in a super sixth in a huge field in the opening under-9 girls 400m to bag a fine trophy. Following strongly behind Maedhbh were Aibhlis Todd and Bronagh Hughes. In the Boy's equivalent, Leo Macruairi was just two places out of a trophy with Cillian Halpenny and Aaron Spaight making fine debut.

Top Blackrock finisher of the night was the indefatigable Neasa Reilly who, despite being out of her age group, came in a remarkable second place in the under-11 Girls 1400m, with Aoife O'brien taking a super trophy in ninth place. Blackrock were not finished in this one because also running big races over the one kilometre circuit around the Mall were Niamh Cunningham, Beibhinn Nicruairi, Una O'neill Kinney, Bi Carroll, Clodagh Lynch, Eve Brosnan, Caoilfhionn Mccarthy, Eimear Fee, Aoife O'brien and Leah Mcardle.
