MINI 'up-cycles' car parts into luxury bags
MILAN, Feb 20 — A new line of bags uses the materials left over from the prototypes of the new MINI Roadster, which includes discarded colour samples, seat leather, soft-top caves and body plates.The material has been “repurposed” into a line of weekend and city bags for men and women, MINI said, created by fashion brand Carmina Campus under the direction of Ilaria Venturini Fendi, the youngest daughter of Anna Fendi and former designer for the legendary Italian house.
Material uses include seat leather for the bag exterior, mosaics made from body work, sun visors used to conceal makeup mirrors and door handles used as details on the smaller bags.
The bags will be launched during Milan Fashion Week (February 22-28) at 10 Corso Como, MINI announced.
Those looking for luggage from an even more upmarket source can turn to Porsche, which launched a line of apparel and accessories created from materials used in its sports cars last year.
