This sherbet-hued creation from Marc Jacobs offers a lot in the way of color and personality despite being quite simple. The Snake Suede and Leather Clutch features raspberry suede paired with orange leather and raspberry python trim -- literally in the form of a python. The little snake has a small brown leather tongue and eyelash details, plus as a single pink crystal eye. The bag closes via concealed magnetic closure and the interior is divided into three compartments, the center zipped, and is lined in brown leather. $1,095

Thrifter on a mission
Jentine Gootjes breezes through the front doors of Talize on a mission. With practised precision she makes a beeline for the jewellery, sweeps a critical eye over the glass case and quickly settles on a gold-toned statement necklace.
She asks to have it put aside and strides across the Upper James Street store and picks up a pair of black peep-toe heels. She runs a finger along the shoe before setting them down. She says they’re not worth buying if they’re not leather — even at $13.
A veteran thrifter and author of the style blog My Edit, Gootjes has shopping at thrift stores down to a science. She posts three to four entries a week with at least one devoted to thrifting.
There is method to her madness, says the 28-year-old landscaper and former fashion design student. And she’s happy to share tips with her blog devotees.
“Accessories are a good starting point for beginners,” says Gootjes. “It’s really easy to get over the ick factor.”
