Why have I been writing about so many black bags recently? That’s not a rhetorical question – I really would like to know. Not only do I normally prefer bright bags in almost every case, but it’s summer! It should be time for beautiful shades of blue, yellow and pink, but for some reason, half of the bags that I’ve loved recently have been black. Maybe my love for the color is affecting me in ways that I never thought that it would. Alternately, maybe the winter industrial trend has spilled over a bit in to spring.
Or perhaps there have just been an unusually high number of good black bags released recently. Thankfully for all of us, many of them have been exceptionally well-priced, such as the DKNY Quilted Leather Tote .
Let’s get the obvious out of the way – any bag with pebbled, quilted black leather is going to remind any real handbag lover of Chanel. I don’t think that’s a detriment in this case, however – despite the little logo coin, I don’t think this resembles any particular Chanel design similarly enough to be called a rip-off. It merely uses some of Chanel’s favorite elements, which is totally allowed.

Mama Mahoney creates stir with bag business
When Highlands Ranch resident Janice Mahoney heard that her bag business had been recognized nationally in February as the Fox Small Business of the Day, she knew she had arrived.
Six years after she made her first tote for a friend in Pennsylvania, suddenly people across America were finding out about her.
What started as an idea to give her friend the perfect-sized bag that she could take to the pool, two years later had turned into a full-fledged business. Now, it’s a business being talked about.
“I feel like it’s really taking off now,” Mahoney said. “I feel like I have a springboard from the Fox award and from the Oscars.”
Oh yeah, that’s right, the Oscars. February was no doubt a big month for Mahoney. Aside from garnering national recognition from Fox, the Pittsburgh native also enjoyed hearing that actress Teri Polo, of “Meet the Parents” fame, modeled one of her inspiration totes at the GBK Oscar Gift Lounge during Hollywood’s biggest annual weekend gala.
